The
Virtual Museum celebrates its second year !
October 2, 2007 is the date that celebrates the 2nd Anniversary of the Virtual Museum of the 95th Infantry Division.
What is the assessment of this 2nd year?
This past year has enabled us to refine our research and to share a maximum amount of information about the 95th Infantry Division and the Liberation of Metz.
In January 2007 we created the Halls of Honor, which has enabled us to count precisely 159 veterans of the division. (Name, medals, unit and pictures)
Our actions, apart from the site, did not cease. We continued to research precise information about the veterans, flowering of tombs in the American cemetery at Saint-Avold, and participation in ceremonies...
All were these efforts rewarded?
During the 1st year, the Council General of the Moselle us had congratulated for our actions. This year, two very known associations of the area of Metz, Lorraine Etats-Unis Association and the Rotary Club Metz Lafayette rewarded us for our work with the benefit of the friendship between Lorraine and the United States of America. Thank you very much for your support!
Do you have some new projects for the 3rd year of the Virtual Museum?
The Virtual Museum promises a beautiful future since several testimonies and accounts of battles are on standby of publication.
We will publish during this New Year some new newspapers of 1944 and also a new series of stereotypes taken by the US Air Force showing the bombardment of Metz in November 1944.
In the near future, an extension of the Website, "
The Iron Men of Metz Archives " will give the opportunity to our visitors to visualize many authentic documents, maps, photos, audio files and videos… This website created with the help of Vincent Thuillier is in course of completion and will thus be opened to the visitors soon.
In conclusion, our objective for this 3rd year rests unchanged: to do still and always better for the pleasure of the Net surfers.
Many thanks to all our visitors and friendly greetings with more than 370 faithful registered voters to our mailing list!
