61st Anniversary of the Liberation of Metz [1944 - 2005]

November 22, 1944 at 14.35PM, Major General Walton H. Walker reported to Lieutenant General Patton that Metz was completely secured... But at the price of many casualties !

This is a drawing that I made.

"A GI of the 95th Infantry Division, wounded during fatal combat for the Liberation of Metz is helped by a medic comrade. Both pass close to the Monument of the 95th Infantry Division that is dedicated to them today and enter to the center of the city. In the background, we can see the great cathedral, a powerful symbol of the City.

In spite of his wounds, the shadow that the soldier projects on the monument recalls a courageous man, bayonet on his rifle and ready for  combat. That's why the soldiers of the 95th Infantry Division merit, with dignity, the nickname of the Iron Men of Metz. "
